Bookin’ It @ the Drake, a bi-monthly book discussion sponsored by Drake Community Library, is going virtual. Bookin’ It will hold its next meeting via Zoom on Thursday, September 10, at 7 p.m. The selected title for the September meeting is the 2020 All Iowa Reads title, The Mothers by Brit Bennett.
The Iowa Center for the Book describes it well: “A dazzling debut novel from an exciting new voice, The Mothers is a surprising story about young love, a big secret in a small community—and the things that ultimately haunt us most. Set within a contemporary black community in Southern California, Brit Bennett's mesmerizing first novel is an emotionally perceptive story about community, love, and ambition.”
Bookin’ It @the Drake is open to the public and chooses both non-fiction and fiction titles to discuss. Drake Community Library purchases several copies of each title for general circulation so that anyone wanting to participate may do so. The Mothers is also available for check-out in large print format and audio CD as well as ebook formats.
Bookin’ It discussions are held on the second Thursday every other month. The title chosen for November 12 is Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker. Shadows of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz-Zafon is the pick for January 14, 2021. New readers are always welcome to attend. Call the Library at 641-236-2661 to register and receive the link for the Zoom meeting. Email Marily Kennett (email@example.com) or Liz Cabelli (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information.
