Bookin’ It @ the Drake, a bi-monthly book discussion sponsored by Drake Community Library, will hold its next meeting will be July 8th at 7 p.m. The selected title for this meeting is The Water Dancer, by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
Coate’s won the National Book Award for his nonfiction work Between the World and Me. The Water Dancer, published in 2019, was his much anticipated debut novel. A New York Times #1 bestseller, the novel is no further development as a motion picture. A blend of historical fiction and magical realism, The Water Dancer is both a slave narrative and coming-of-age story centered upon Hiram, whose mother, a slave, disappears when he is very young, and whose father is the white owner of the plantation.
Bookin’ It @ the Drake discussions are open to the public and are held on the second Thursday of every other month. Both non-fiction and fiction titles are chosen to discuss, and Drake Community Library purchases several copies of each title for general circulation so that anyone wanting to participate may do so. The Water Dancer is available for check-out as an ebook, eaudiobook, large print edition, and audio CD. Call (641) 236-2661 to receive an email reminder for the meeting.
New readers are always welcome to attend Bookin’ It @ the Drake. Anyone who wishes to attend the discussion may call the Library at 641-236-2661 to register and receive the link for the Zoom meeting.
