Assists the Public Safety Manager to lead and manage the Public Safety program and the Public Safety Officers for UnityPoint Health - Grinnell Regional Medical Center (GRMC) to achieve specific operational, quality, safety, security, service and financial goals while providing a safe and secure environment for visitors, patients, physicians and staff.
Assists with the hiring, termination, daily staffing, performance management and staff development while building positive customer relationships and utilizing open communication.
Responsible for conducting quality audits with customers and developing improvement strategies for increasing customer satisfaction. Responds to all disaster and/or emergencies, both internal and external, while working in collaboration and cooperation with the Public Safety Manager at UnityPoint Health – Des Moines.
This position shall have direct oversite and management of GRMC’s Emergency Preparedness operations. The Public Safety Supervisor at GRMC shall manage all plans, direct and coordinate a comprehensive emergency management and education program to maintain a constant state of readiness for emergency situations that may significantly impact the resources and capabilities of the hospital (i.e. mass casualty, bioterrorism, weather related incidents, hazardous material situations). The Public Safety Supervisor shall work in coordination with Risk Management in the development of organization-wide programs to protect the health and safety of patients, visitors, and staff during an emergency event. Emergency preparedness policies shall be in accordance with all local, State, and Federal regulations and standards.
The Public Safety Supervisor shall have full responsibility to develop and administer the emergency preparedness budget. The Public Safety Supervisor shall have oversite and responsibilities for environmental safety that include inspections and evaluations of the environment, equipment and processes to ensure compliance with government safety regulations and industry standards. The Public Safety Supervisor shall assist in identifying potentially hazardous biological, chemical and radiological materials and provide measures to safeguard team members, patients, and visitors. The Public Safety Supervisor shall recommend changes to protect workers, and educate team members on how to prevent injuries through the use of safety training programs.
EDUCATION: High School education or equivalent required. Must be able to read, write, comprehend and speak fluent English.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: A valid Iowa Drivers License is mandatory. Certification preferred but not essential in the following: ASP,
OC/Pepper Spray, Handcuffs, CPR, AED and MAB
EXPERIENCE: Medical, public safety, law enforcement, military or EMT/fire fighter background preferred. Customer service or public
relations experience preferred. Previous supervisory experience in a public safety environment, law enforcement or the military is preferred. Previous investigative experience with knowledge of investigative techniques is preferred. Minimum keyboarding/computer knowledge.
