Description

The Prison Program Fellow will help the Liberal Arts in Prison Program (LAPP) as it launches its pilot in the state’s only women’s prison in Mitchellville, Iowa by providing crucial academic support for incarcerated students at both Newton and Mitchellville prisons. The Fellow will schedule and coordinate tutors and research assistants for college courses in prison; procure and coordinate course materials; provide tutoring themselves as appropriate; coordinate transportation for instructors, tutors, and volunteers; help coordinate a weekly faculty lecture series in prison; assist LAPP staff with clerical work and record-keeping; and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

 Bachelor Degree required

• Regular travel to Iowa prisons

• Driver’s license required

• Must be able to complete Department of Corrections clearance process to enter prisons

• Strong interpersonal skills

• Ability to use multiple modes of communication effectively across all levels of constituencies

• Independently organizes and manages workloads in an efficient manner

• Champions Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience working as a peer tutor preferred

. Previous experience as a writing mentor
