Description

Directs the establishment and maintenance of Brownells accounting principles, practices, and procedures for the maintenance of its fiscal records and the preparation of its financial reports. Directs general and property accounting, cost accounting, and budgetary control. Appraises operating results in terms of costs, budgets, operating policies, trends, and increased profit opportunities.

 

What You Will Do

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs and coordinates all accounting operational functions
  • Analyses financial statements including Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement
  • Works with VP of Finance and the Assistant Controller to implement and oversee activity-based accounting
  • Actively works with other departments to develop departmental budgets and works with them to find creative solutions to ensure spending is within budget and meet ROI expectations
  • Evaluates and manages internal controls within the organization
  • Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP as well as IRS, DOL, State Department and other regulatory agencies
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on all regulatory changes affecting the company as they relate to the finance and accounting department
  • Asses current accounting operations and offers recommendations for improvement and implements new processes
  • Collects, analyzes data to evaluate operational effectiveness, and makes recommendations to solve problems.
  • Reviews ongoing performance results to targets, and works with other departments to help them establish and meet their targets
  • Works with outside brokers to ensure best practices that optimize Brownells position with regard to insurance related policies and practices
  • Ensures internal audits are completed on a routine basis and works with other personnel to ensure all practices are in compliance
  • Responsible for performance coaching and providing career growth opportunities to develop all Finance team members
  • Along with VP of Finance, takes a leadership role in departmental meetings and work with team to execute, monitor, and evaluate team objectives and their business impact
  • Champions company policies as they relate to the corporate vision, corporate ethics, and compliance with affirmative action and equal opportunity employment
  • Developing and monitoring business performance and bank covenant metrics

Requirements

What You Will Need

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree Business, Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA required
  • Ten plus years of progressive financial leadership experience

Physical Demands

Sedentary work. Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.
