Grinnell College invites applications for the position of Registrar of the College. Grinnell College is a highly selective, residential, nonsectarian liberal arts college with a long history of curricular innovation and thoughtful progressivism. It awarded its first B.A. to a woman in 1857 and to an African American in 1871, and pioneered an individually advised curriculum in 1970 that allows our 1,700 undergraduate students to tailor their own education in collaboration with faculty advisers. Our diverse student body represents 50 states, 45 countries, with 20% identifying as international and 24% as people of color.
Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs & Dean of the College, the Registrar leads a four person team and is responsible for managing student academic records, scheduling classes, overseeing course registration, evaluating transfer credits, accomplishing degree audits, certifying degrees, processing transcripts, and disseminating information to all campus constituencies. The Registrar also interprets and formulates policies and procedures consistent with these responsibilities. The Registrar plays a key role in determining agendas and providing analysis to both the Committee on Academic Standing and the Curriculum Committee as well as serving on other permanent and ad hoc campus committees.
In collaboration with Instructional Technology Services, the Registrar provides strategic leadership for technological systems and solutions needed to advance registrar services in a digital age and makes recommendations for improving services in alignment with institutional priorities. The Registrar will work closely with campus partners on projects to enhance retention and degree completion and analyze enrollment trends and course demand.
Candidates will need to upload a letter of application detailing interest in position and potential to contribute to a liberal arts college community that maintains a diversity of people and perspectives as one of its core values, a curriculum vitae, and 3 references. References will not be contacted without prior notification. Ideal start date is July 1, 2021.
