Grinnell College, a Division III member of the NCAA, seeks applicants for an Assistant Athletic Director, Coordinator for Diversity & Inclusion and Student Programming.

As one of the first small colleges to have a professional working on diversity and inclusion in its athletic department, Grinnell College is progressively building diversity structures in all areas of the institution. With a student body that is represented by 26% domestic students of color, along with 20% international students, Grinnell emphasizes efforts to cultivate a wide diversity of people and perspectives
The athletic department serves 400 students who compete in 20 varsity sports and its teams routinely win conference championships and compete at both the regional and national level.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Director of Athletics & Recreation, the successful candidate will foster integration between athletics and other departments (both academic and administrative) when it comes to work on issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion; provide diversity and inclusion training for department professionals and student-athletes: and provide leadership and develop programming to promote success and retention of underrepresented groups. With a focus on student programming, the Assistant AD will have direct supervision over the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, will advise and mentor other student-athlete groups, will collaborate with the Department of Student Affairs, and will work with other department members to provide leadership training for student-athletes. The Assistant AD will have direct oversight of four sport programs, their coaching staffs and the recruitment of assistant coaches.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited institution required
  • 2-3 years experience working in higher education administration and/or intercollegiate athletics
  • Must have a passion for work on issues related to diversity on college campuses
  • Educational or work background in leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred with a concentration in higher education administration, leadership studies and/or athletic administration.
  • Five years experience in college athletic administration
  • Background implementing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programming for athletics
  • Background implementing leadership training for athletes
