The Grinnell College Biology Department ( seeks a Manager for its greenhouse, part of the Robert Noyce ’49 Science Center. The greenhouse, which includes nine rooms with individual climate-controls and a spacious preparation area and office, houses a permanent, curated collection of specimens acquired and maintained over many years, as well as supporting short-term plantings in the context of Grinnell’s research-intensive Biology curriculum. Pest control follows the principles of Integrated Pest Management, focusing on biological controls.


The Greenhouse Manager has two primary responsibilities: (1) directing the care of the live plant collection and overseeing the physical facilities; and (2) assisting laboratories and student research in a fraction of the Department’s courses that focus on plant biology and utilize the greenhouse. The position is 75% time, with more work required during academic terms, and less work during academic breaks.


Minimum Qualifications: 

A Bachelor’s degree in a life science field with substantial training in plant biology is required. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Master's degree.
