The Data Strategy Leader will set overall vision and drive execution of data management strategies. This role is responsible for defining the business objectives and customer needs that data products will fulfill, along with articulating the product’s success and mobilizing the team members to make that vision a reality. Will work closely with business and technology leaders to establish infrastructure, data quality controls and ensure data is complete, accurate, governed and easily accessible by business teams.

Responsibilities

  • Defines the product vision, develops competitive analysis while monitoring the market, tracks consumer needs and aligns the agile team with the requirements to achieve the product’s vision.
  • Provides thought leadership and work with business and agile technology teams to establish robust and scalable cloud-based data architecture, modernize infrastructure and build self-service analytics platforms.
  • Fosters cross-functional collaboration with business teams to identify common data requirements, prioritizes and manages data acquisition initiatives.
  • Explores new analytics data assets and partners with internal stakeholders to run proof of concepts aligned with organization business strategy.
  • Develops roadmap for business data needs and oversees the overall management of operational data assets required for reporting and analytics.
  • Recommends solutions to stay abreast of current trends, technologies, and best practices both in data & analytics and industry.
  • Leads a data governance team to establish best practices, standards, data catalog and data governance framework for Grinnell Mutual’s processes and data warehouse.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Masters or bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, data science, technology, engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and training.

 

  • Eight years of leadership experience with deep understanding of data & analytics lifecycle (operational databases, data pipelining, data quality controls, data profiling, data architecture, data catalog, and self-service analytics enablement).

 

  • Minimum of three years of experience in property & casualty insurance industry.

 

  • Experience working with different organization levels and business functions.

 

  • Experience working with modern cloud-based data architectures.

 

  • Previous experience working on or with data & analytics teams.

 

  • Experience working across structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.

 

  • Excellent project management skills with proven track record of meeting timelines.

 

  • Ability to lead gathering of business requirements and design complex data and process flows.

 

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Visio).

 

  • Excellent communication skills, consultative approach, and work well in a team environment.

 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skill set.

 

  • Initiative-taking, energetic, results-oriented, organized and attention to detail.

 

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and propriety information.

 

  • Requires regular and predictable attendance to meet the customer needs of the position.  

 

  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to all Grinnell Mutual policies.
