Description

The Accountant examines, analyzes and interprets accounting records to prepare financial statements for the company and its subsidiaries as either a specialist or generalist for montly reporting to managment and quarterly filings with regulatory bodies. This job will require 2-5 days a week in the home office located in Grinnell, Iowa. Please note that candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. without Grinnell Mutual sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, examines, and analyzes financial statements and other financial reports for assigned areas as a generalist or a specialist to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Reconciles and balances transactions for designated areas accurately and in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Maintains recordkeeping and/or accounting systems software.
  • Operates in accordance with applicable laws and departmental standards. Stays current with changing legislation, shares knowledge with manager and co-workers, and applies information as appropriate.
  • Compiles information and files reports to assist the internal and external auditors with annual audit.
  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments and obligations to project future revenues and expenses in order to make recommendations to manager or business leaders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Accounting or Finance from accredited college or university; or one or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply generally accepted accounting theories, principles, methods, practices, and terminology.
  • Ability to collect and organize accounting data, interpret its significance and accurately prepare financial reports.
  • Ability to complete work accurately with a high level of detail as well as able to identify and communicate discrepancies for correction in others work.
  • Ability to use general office equipment and demonstrate advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products as well as the appropriate accounting software.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information and propriety information.
  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable schedule to meet the needs of our customers and provide adequate coverage during business hours.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player. Must be able to complete work in a timely, accurate and thorough manner and is conscientious about assignments.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with all individuals both internally and externally to the organization.
  • Must maintain confidential and proprietary information.
