POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Student Employment, the Student Employment Specialist is responsible for managing all aspects of a comprehensive and fully functioning campus-based student employment program. Specifically, works in partnership with on-campus supervisors to evaluate and post on-campus positions and manages all procedures for the successful recruitment, selection, and placement of students in positions on campus. The specialist also works with college personnel to ensure fair hiring practices and adherence to employment regulations as well as manages all transactional processes regarding student employee hiring, on-boarding, and termination for the first fully Unionized student employment workforce in America.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all areas of the student employment program
  • Develop and maintain the student employment handbook, supervisor manual, website, portal and related forms
  • Manage the student employment compensation fund, working with campus partners to identify and approve funding for student positions around campus
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Office of Careers Life and Service and supervisors of student employees
  • Assist Director with planning goals and objectives for the student employment program

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Three years or more of relevant experience
  • Adaptable to changing situations and circumstances while maintaining a professional work environment
  • Champions Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Strong communication skills in a variety of ways for multiple constituents
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and coalitions along with managing conflict as necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize meetings, coalitions, and administrative tasks in an individually efficient manner

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience administering a union contract and working with a unionized workforce
  • Understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Previous community or political organizing experience
