Description

1. Provides appropriate first aid and basic emergency care for illness or injuries according to district established policies and procedures; Refers emergency situations to parents, health care provider, or hospital as necessary.
2. Prioritizes student care in the health office according to the severity of symptoms or injury.
3. Records health office visits, student symptoms and care and/or medications given.
4. Accurately dispenses and records daily student medications.
5. Maintains ongoing communication with students, their parents, teachers, school staff, principal, and district nurse. Communicates and obtains guidance from the School Nurse when in doubt as to what action should be taken in any health office matter.
6. Assists the School Nurse in scheduling and performing routine screening procedures. Examples include vision, hearing, dental screenings, etc.
7. Assists the School Nurse in collection, recording and maintenance of school health related records.
8. Performs clerical duties associated with school health office, including but not limited to running health office reports, creating forms, managing immunization mailings, and organizing health information for school sponsored activities.
9. Assists in the control of communicable diseases.
10. Orders, maintains and properly stores all necessary supplies and equipment in the health office.
11. Maintains current certification in CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration in Iowa Schools course, blood borne pathogens and other training as required.
12. Supports and facilitates implementation of student health protocols and school health policies and guidelines.
13. Follows through with directives and instructions consistently from the District Nurse, independently makes decisions and solves problems to
meet the needs of students according to licensure and knowledge base.
14. Maintains confidentiality in accordance with state and federal laws and district policy. Respects information entrusted to them, pertaining to
students, staff, and others in the school community.

15. Other duties as assigned by the School Nurse.
 

Requirements

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE: • CPR Certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of start date • Must possess a valid driver's license • One to two years experience working in a healthcare related field is preferred but not required
