Drake Community Library
Bookin’ It @ the Drake, a bi-monthly book discussion that meets at Drake Community Library will hold its next meeting on Thursday, January 12th at 7 p.m. The selection for discussion is Circe by Madeline Miller, the author of Song of Achilles.
Circe is a nymph, the daughter of a naiad and Helios the sun god. Scorned by her family for her human-sounding voice, she befriends humans and discovers the power of witchcraft. Threatened by Circe’s power, Zeus banishes her to a deserted island. On the island, she crosses paths with some of the most famous figures in all of mythology, including Minotaur, Daedalus, Icarus, the murderous Medea, and, of course, Odysseus. Circe must make a choice between the gods or the mortals she has come to love.
Book discussions are on the second Thursday every other month. The title chosen for March 9th, 2023, is Hamnet – A novel of the plague by Maggie O’Farrell. Hamnet is detailed portrait of a marriage and family shattered by the death of a son. Hamnet won the 2020 Women’s Prize for Fiction. New readers are always welcome to Bookin’ It @ the Drake.
