Event Details:
Event Description:When disaster strikes, volunteers want to help. But without proper coordination, well-intentioned volunteers can overwhelm emergency operations or even put themselves at risk. That's where Volunteer Reception Centers (VRCs) come in—and why we need YOU to be trained and ready. What is a VRC? A Volunteer Reception Center screens and organizes volunteers during emergencies, turning them into a united force that can safely and effectively help our community recover. Whether it's severe storms, flooding, or other disasters, a VRC helps us avoid creating "a disaster within a disaster." Join Our VRC Response Team Volunteer Iowa, in partnership with Poweshiek County EMA and RSVP, is hosting a FREE two-part training series (first day is Nov. 10) to prepare community members to staff Grinnell's Volunteer Reception Center when needed. When: Tuesday, November 11, 2025 What to Expect:
Who Should Attend: Community organizers, local volunteers, and anyone interested in playing an effective role in crisis response. No prior experience necessary—just bring a willingness to learn! Please share this email with anyone who you feel may be interested. Disasters can happen at any time, and Grinnell's resilience depends on trained individuals who can quickly organize volunteer efforts when our community needs it most. Please consider joining this important training. Registration is not required, but nice to have an idea of attendees.
