Graeme Miller ’06 shares his life and career journey in this Learning from Alumni talk Graeme Miller is a Principal Research Specialist at the Energy Resources Center (ERC) at the University of Illinois Chicago, where he works to advance energy sustainability and environmental improvement. As assistant director of the U.S. DOE’s Midwest Onsite Energy Technical Assistance Partnership, he leads engagement efforts with energy end-users and stakeholders. Over his 15 years at the ERC, he has focused on addressing barriers to clean distributed generation technologies such as combined heat and power (CHP), waste heat to power (WHP), district energy, and energy efficiency. His expertise lies in utility rate policy, particularly how tariff structures like standby rates and demand ratchets impact onsite energy adoption. Currently, his research models how CHP, WHP, and similar technologies can contribute to industrial decarbonization.
