Description

Grinnell College is seeking a leader to serve as the Director of Counseling Services within our Student Health and Wellness (SHAW) center. The SHAW center is an integrated unit for student care and wellness. This position requires a highly collaborative leader with advanced crisis response skills and a strong commitment to student well-being. 

The Director will manage Counseling Services and provide strategic oversight of mental health support on campus. They will work closely with a caring team of professionals at SHAW, to ensure delivery of evidence-based, culturally responsive care that helps foster a holistic and inclusive approach to student wellness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and evaluate all operations of Counseling Services
  • Contribute to a comprehensive strategic vision for campus health and well-being
  • Maintain accurate organized records
  • Provide leadership in mental health and crisis prevention and response - across campus
  • Serve as a key member of the College’s CARE team and work proactively with campus stakeholders to coordinate responses to urgent mental health concerns
  • Encourage a strong culture of collaboration within SHAW, with campus partners, and with off-campus partners to promote the personal and academic success of students
  • Provide clinical and administrative supervision to counseling staff and pre-licensed providers
  • Hold an appropriate clinical caseload which could include on-going individual counseling, triage, care management/consultation, and, if desired, group counseling
  • Report to the Dean of Health and Wellness and serve on the Dean’s leadership team
  • Completes other responsibilities as appropriate and assigned

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree or equivalent in from an APA-Accredited program in Counseling or Clinical Psychology
  • Licensed to practice in the State of Iowa within 18 months of hire-and maintained through employment
  • 1 year or more of professional experience
  • Actively champions diversity, equity, and inclusion issues and initiatives
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues, faculty, and campus staff to support students
  • Flexibility and adaptability in the ever-changing daily lives of students
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize


Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in crisis management/counseling
  • Successful experience providing individual and group counseling to young adults
  • Experience providing clinical supervision/training
  • Ability to show success in outreach and prevention services/community programing for college campuses or the like
  • Working knowledge of HIPPA and FERPA with a commitment to confidentiality
