Description
The Grinnell Fire Department offers fire, rescue, and emergency medical transport services to the City of Grinnell and surrounding areas.
Responsibilities:
- 24/48 shift rotation.
- Respond to all emergency situations that are requested. The Grinnell Fire Department provides fire response, EMS response, Haz-mat response, and rescue response.
- Conduct fire prevention services, school visits, and assisting with commercial inspections, and smoke detectors inspections for private residence.
- Ability to operate an emergency vehicle per departmental protocols.
- Perform fire suppression and rescue as needed.
- Perform Hazardous Materials operations level response and containment.
- Perform patient assessments and deliver quality patient care.
- Provide transportation for patients in a safe and efficient manner.
- Documentation of pre-hospital care.
- Attending and assisting with departmental training.
- Perform basic vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Perform daily vehicle and equipment inspections.
- Maintains EMS certifications.
- Respond to “All-Call” type emergencies as needed.
Salary:
- Firefighter/EMT: $66,061.32
- Firefighter/Paramedic: $69,781.92

Requirements
Education:
- Highschool diploma/GED.
- Have or can obtain a valid Iowa driver’s license.
- Valid Iowa EMT certification or have the ability to get reciprocity.
- Firefighter I within 1 year of service, Firefighter II within 2 years of service.
- Enrolled in Paramedic school within first 2 years of service.
Minimum Requirements:
- Be at least 18 years of age and no older than 65 years of age, on test date.
- Hold a valid Iowa driver’s license at time of hire and be able to maintain it throughout employment.
- Be a high school graduate or hold a GED certificate.
- Firefighter I certified within one year of appointment, Firefighter II within two years of appointment.
- Must have an Iowa EMT certification, or the ability to obtain reciprocity, at the time of hire and maintain EMS certifications as required by the department during employment.
