Description

The Assurance Analyst identifies risks, examines, analyzes, and interprets or audits accounting, financial, operational, and EDP records of Grinnell Mutual and subsidiary companies to determine financial status of establishment and prepares financial reports concerning operating procedures.

 

This position qualifies for our flexible workplace options. Work at our Grinnell, Iowa, headquarters or from a home office in any of the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Please note that candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. without Grinnell Mutual sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts financial and operational audits by verifying and examining accounting ledgers, statements, invoices, records, procedures, and other statistical information within the corporation.

 

  • Defines audit scope and objectives of audits including project plan, detailed control evaluation, test activities, issue resolution, reporting, and risk assessment.

 

  • Determines effectiveness of financial and control systems to ensure checks and balances are in place and followed. Reviews records to ensure proper recording of transactions and conformance to laws, policies, and procedures.

 

  • Prepares and presents reports of finding and adds insight to collaborate for improvements and corrections with divisional leadership.

 

  • May complete management reports, annual statements, tax returns and serves as a financial consultant for membership.

 

  • Assists external auditors in gathering data and information necessary to complete audit.

 

  • Conducts reviews, updates, and testing for Model Audit Rule (MAR) Narratives to comply with State requirements

 

  • Completes and schedules work within budget dollars and times established.

 

  • Analyzes and make decisions based upon needs of mutual accounting clients.

 

  • Makes decisions within authority on scope, testing and findings in the process of internal auditing and external auditor assistance.

 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

  • Prefer CIA or CPA designation.

 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of auditing procedures and practices.

 

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality and respectable relationships.

 

  • Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

 

  • Demonstrated ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions to practical situations.

 

  • Ability to manage multiple and/or conflicting priorities to meet deadlines.

 

  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

 

  • Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers, supervisors, customers, and vendors.

 

  • Must possess working knowledge of basic office equipment including computer. Must have basic skills in MS Office products including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. 

 

  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable schedule to meet the needs of our customers and provide adequate coverage during our core business hours.

 

  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to all Grinnell Mutual policies.

 

  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate Grinnell Mutual core values in all areas work.

  • There may be periods of high stress during high volume periods such as year end.

 

  • The position is physically located in an agreed upon location per the Grinnell Mutual Work from Anywhere policy. All work arrangements must put the business needs of the organization first and ensure the coverage of all job. Noise level is relatively quiet and occasional stress is encountered as deadlines approach.

 

  • The position requires an individual to sit for long periods of time. The position may require frequent and extended time on the telephone and visual acuity to work on the computer for extended periods of time.

 

  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force and to lift up to 10 pounds.

 

  • Frequently works with accounting and technology departments of Grinnell Mutual to gather data and review procedures. Occasionally works with all departments of Grinnell Mutual.

 

  • Frequently works with member mutuals to complete financial reviews. Works with outside auditors annually.
