Event Description:Drake Community Library is pleased to present the "Lead Up to the Oscars" Film Program, featuring screenings of two Oscar-winning films from 2023: "The Whale" and "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once." Karen Neal, Director of Drake Community Library, remarks on the program, stating, "Our 'Lead Up to the Oscars' film series provides an opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy acclaimed cinema. The films are available to us via Kanopy, which is the library’s streaming film resource.” Kanopy is available to Grinnell library patrons through the financial support of Friends of Drake Community Library. More information on Kanopy is available on the library website at drakelibrary.org. On Thursday, February 22nd, at 5:30 pm, the library will screen the 2022 film "The Whale". Brendan Fraser received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of Charlie. This film explores themes of redemption and authenticity. The second screening will be on Thursday, February 29th, at 5:30 pm. The library will present the 2022 film "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once." This film, which received seven Academy Awards out of eleven nominations, explores mother-daughter relationships, the immigrant experience, and the multiverse, with a touch of whimsy and absurdity. Admission to these screenings is free and open to all. Film screenings will take place in the Caulkins Community Room. Please note both films are rated R.
