Overview

Grinnell College invites you to join their new weekly series of casual, engaging conversations with featured campus guests. The new weekly series provides an opportunity for informal, engaging conversations between the College and broader Grinnell community on a variety of topics. Today’s topic is "Museum Studies Goes to Washington: Visiting Smithsonian Museums Before and After the Executive Order." Susan Baley, who teaches Introduction to Museum Studies, has taken students to Washington, DC as part of Grinnell College’s Course-Embedded Travel (CET) program for the past two years. The class visits for a week during spring break to learn from behind-the-scenes tours with museum professionals at the Smithsonian Institution. Grinnell College is an affiliate of the Smithsonian, and our contacts in the affiliate office facilitate the tours. The impact of the 2025 Executive Order “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History” on the Smithsonian museums has become part of the learning experience. Enjoy coffee, light refreshments, and an open space for connection. All are welcome and no RSVP required. View upcoming speakers on the Grinnell College Events Calendar.
