Opening Reception: Abstract Expressionists: The Women

Remarks by Katherine J. Wright, PhD, American Federation of Arts Curator at 5:30 p.m.. Refreshments will be served. Abstract Expressionists: The Women, curated by Ellen G. Landau, presents a fresh look at important contributions U.S. women painters working in New York, California, and Paris made to Abstract Expressionism from the early 1940s through the 1970s.

The show features forty-eight outstanding examples from The Levett Collection by twenty-nine women artists, offering audiences more in-depth understanding of a singular aspect of twentieth-century American art, one whose significance has only just begun to receive proper recognition.

Abstract Expressionists: The Women is organized by the American Federation of Arts from the Christian Levett Collection and FAMM (Female Artists of the Mougins Museum), France. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Ellen G. Landau. It is generously supported by Berry Campbell Gallery, Betsy Shack Barbanell, Monique Schoen Warshaw, and Clare McKeon and the Clare McKeon Charitable Trust.
