Smithsonian Film Series — Epic Yellowstone: Down the River Wild

Overview

The Smithsonian Film Series continues at the Strand 3 with "Epic Yellowstone: Down the River Wild". The Yellowstone River is the longest undammed river in the contiguous 48 states, flowing with a wildness that is both violent and vital to the creatures that are drawn to its banks. From Yellowstone Lake, North America’s largest high-elevation body of water, to the Missouri River, follow its nearly 700-mile journey over falls and through canyons into America’s heartland. See how Yellowstone’s bison, otters, coyotes, and thrill-seekers adapt to—and thrive in—these wild, untamed waters. Run time: 52 minutes.

Following the screening, Jordan Allsup, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Grinnell, will share an update on the Parks Master Plan. This program is part of Grinnell College’s Smithsonian Affiliate public film series, which features ten Smithsonian-produced films exploring different aspects of American life and history. Running through November, each screening includes collaboration with community partners, faculty, and staff to connect the films to local experiences, Iowa history, and the broader American story—creating shared space for learning, reflection, and connection.
