Summer in Grinnell means ball games, bike rides, and all the fun. But that fun and activity can sometimes come with plenty of opportunity for injury as well.
“When the weather gets nice, people get outside,” says Becca, physician assistant in the walk-in clinic. “Sometimes that means bumps, bruises, or sprains, and we’re here when that happens. ”
That’s where the UnityPoint Health - Grinnell Manatt Walk-In Clinic comes in.
For many people, knowing where to go for care can be confusing. Should you call your primary care provider? Head to the emergency room? Or is there another option?
Chamber Ambassadors visited the Walk-In Clinic today and heard from the team about the services they provide and the history of the clinic. Originally established in 2014 through support from the Manatt family and Grinnell Regional Medical Center, the clinic was created to expand access to convenient, same-day care. While the name changed from urgent care to walk-in clinic in 2019, patients can still come in for many of the same services they have relied on for years.
The clinic treats a wide range of ailments – from colds, flu, ear infections, sore throats, and sinus issues to minor cuts, sprains, strains, sports physicals, and much more. If the situation warrants, providers can also order lab work and X-rays when needed. One of the clinic's most popular features is the ability to "save your spot" online before arriving, offering a convenient solution and option for sometimes longer-than-optimal-wait times.
"We find that many people don't realize all the services available here," says Gracie, clinic administrator. "We’re a small but mighty team,” she laughs, “and a lot of people are surprised with everything we’re able to help them with.”
The clinic is staffed by familiar faces in the community including Gracie overseeing daily operations, nurse practitioner Brenda, experience specialist Grace, registered nurse Nicole and physician assistant Becca.
The Walk-In Clinic serves as a bridge between primary care and the emergency room. If you can't get in to see your regular provider, but your situation doesn't require emergent care, the walk-in clinic offers another option close to home. And if a provider determines that additional services are needed, patients can be quickly connected to the appropriate level of care.
The next time you're wondering where to go for a non-emergent illness or injury, remember that help may be closer than you think. The UnityPoint Health–Grinnell Manatt Walk-In Clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., providing convenient care when life doesn't go according to plan.
