What to Expect at the Grinnell Farmers Market

Welcome to the Grinnell Farmers Market, a world of delicious vegetables, fun events, and local community!

Depending on the season, shop a wide array of colorful produce, treats, and hand-made goods. In the spring, for example, you can expect an abundance of radiant radishes and rhubarb, along with seasonal asparagus, kale, and mustard greens.

As summer approaches, enjoy the delicacies of sweet corn, purple and orange beets, bright green shishito peppers, and summer squash. A few weeks into back-to-school season, shop for pumpkins, winter squash, zucchinis, and even frozen, grass-fed turkeys!

The best part of our Farmers Market is that everything is 100% producer-grown or made in the state of Iowa. Outside of produce, we have various vendors who sell art and edible goodies all-year round. Enjoy the luxuries of baked goods — think cherry pies, chocolate zucchini bread, and kolaches! — as well as delicious snacks — like freeze pops, jams, freeze-dried treats, raspberry applesauce, salsas, and chocolate/vanilla yogurt bites! And yes, this list *does* continue on. Of course, we can’t forget to mention our wide selection of meat and honey, including pork chop bundles, ground meat, and cinnamon-infused honey!

Our artists at the Farmers Market also have quite a selection, from hand-made whiskey smokers, light-up ceramic footballs, sports magnets, wallets, and home decorations. When you walk alongside certain vendor stalls, their crocheted animals might call your name, too!

Without our local community, however, the Grinnell Farmers Market would not be as vibrant as it sounds! Under the tents of the Farmers Market are not just vendors — they are community members and families who live in Grinnell and surrounding Iowan communities. Often, they help sponsor local events, pay local taxes, donate to schools, and more. They also sponsor events throughout the Farmers Market season, like Plant-a-Pizza, courtesy of Olson Garden Market. Their event, usually hosted at the beginning of the season, encourages shoppers to plant and take home a free basil, tomato, and onion plant!

Outside of our vendors, the Farmers Market has an array of community events throughout the open season, thanks to our sponsors and staff organizers. From college students to Iowan musicians, expect to catch some live music while you shop, as well as some information stalls with free giveaways. This past season, our sponsor UnityPoint — Grinnell hosted a Mega Brain experience and Christmas in July, gifting free snow cones, youth helmets, and water bottles. We also had a smoothie bike courtesy of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and a Meet and Greet with Ms. Senior World, a local Grinnell High School graduate of ‘80.

And of course, the Farmers Market would not be made possible without shoppers like you! From our senior community to our college students and visitors alike, we thank you for your commitment to our local farmers, vendors, and community!

Savor the season! 🌱☀️
