The 2026 Homecoming Parade Route will begin downtown, heading north on Broad Street, west on 5th Avenue, south on Main Street and west on Commercial Street. A Pep Rally and Dogs for Dollars, a fundraiser for Tiger Scholarship Fund, will be held following the parade at approximately 6:00 PM in Central Park.
The annual Homecoming Parade is organized by the Grinnell Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Grinnell Tigers Activities Department. This celebration of our local schools serves as a great way to encourage business and non-profit organizational support, fosters community vitality, and promotes Grinnell as a great community to live, learn, work, and play.
Abstract Expressionists: The Women, curated by Ellen G. Landau, presents a fresh look at important contributions U.S. women painters working in New York, California, and Paris made to Abstract Expressionism from the early 1940s through the 1970s. The show features forty-eight outstanding examples from The Levett Collection by twenty-nine women artists, offering audiences more in-depth understanding of a singular aspect of twentieth-century American art, one whose significance has only just begun to receive proper recognition.
Abstract Expressionists: The Women is organized by the American Federation of Arts from the Christian Levett Collection and FAMM (Female Artists of the Mougins Museum), France. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Ellen G. Landau. It is generously supported by Berry Campbell Gallery, Betsy Shack Barbanell, Monique Schoen Warshaw, and Clare McKeon and the Clare McKeon Charitable Trust. Additional support has been provided by the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and the Every Page Foundation. The Grinnell Farmers Market accepts cash and token transactions — but most importantly, money from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program! On the corner of Broad St. and 4th Ave., find a staff member with a card reader to purchase SNAP EBT tokens. SNAP tokens can be used to purchase:
SNAP benefits can not be used to purchase non-food items (like crafts, clothes, or flowers), and hot food items intended for immediate consumption at the market, such as hot coffee or prepared hot foods.
The Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) program will continue for the 2026 season, as well. Customers can earn DUFB when using their SNAP cards, or spend DUFB earned at Fareway and Hy-Vee for qualifying products at Market. Learn more on the DoubleUpIowa.org website.

Abstract Expressionists: The Women is organized by the American Federation of Arts from the Christian Levett Collection and FAMM (Female Artists of the Mougins Museum), France. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Ellen G. Landau. UnityPoint Health – Grinnell Public Health encourages all individuals six months of age and older to get a yearly flu vaccine. Multiple influenza vaccination clinics will take place throughout Poweshiek County during October. Various vaccines are available at these clinics including Fluzone High-Dose for adults over 65 and older and the FluLaval flu vaccine for all. The Moderna COVID-19 booster vaccine will also be available for individuals 65 years and older in office by appointment at Public Health.
Attendees need to bring a copy of their insurance or Medicare card to the flu vaccine clinics. For individuals 19 and older
without insurance, the cost per flu vaccine is $35 for the FluLaval and $65 for the Fluzone High-Dose. Clinic attendees
are asked to arrive at 3:30 p.m. to allow the public health team to set up time after schools are dismissed.
Individuals that are unable to attend a public flu vaccination clinic and wish to get a flu vaccine can:
• Call public health at (641) 236-2385 to schedule an appointment.
• Contact their primary care provider to receive a vaccine at their next appointment.
• Get a flu vaccine at the UnityPoint Health – Grinnell Manatt Walk-in Clinic.
Vaccination clinics will also be held on Monday, October 12 at Montezuma School Cafeteria from 3:30-5:30 PM and on Monday, October 19 in the BGM School Cafeteria in Brooklyn from 3:30-5:30 PM. Anyone is able to attend whichever clinic works best for their schedule, regardless of location.

The show features forty-eight outstanding examples from The Levett Collection by twenty-nine women artists, offering audiences more in-depth understanding of a singular aspect of twentieth-century American art, one whose significance has only just begun to receive proper recognition.
Abstract Expressionists: The Women is organized by the American Federation of Arts from the Christian Levett Collection and FAMM (Female Artists of the Mougins Museum), France. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Ellen G. Landau. This past summer, Ed completed his 18th RAGBRAI, riding 409 miles across Iowa from the Missouri River to the Mississippi River with more than 20,000 other cyclists. Ed's career included working on Presidential, Senatorial and Congressional campaigns, 10 years on Capitol Hill as the Legislative Director for Congressman Tom Tauke (R-IA) covering energy, environment and telecommunications legislation, and over 27 years at Verizon Communications as a Vice President overseeing teams lobbying on federal and state legislative matters. With 30-plus years of interviewing prospective interns and employees, Ed has advice on avoiding "rookie" mistakes during a job interview or trying to advance one's career.

This event is one of our drop-in programs, designed for those who may be unable to commit to regular classes but who want to be part of a musical community. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it's up to you! parkrun is positive, welcoming and inclusive, there is no time limit and no one finishes last. Everyone is welcome to come along. Grinnell College presents: America in Color: Small Town Life. A look at the charms and challenges of small-town life in America during the first half of the 20th century, presented entirely in color. At the turn of the 20th century, two-thirds of Americans lived in small towns, but by the 1960s, only a third remained. Some are lured to cities by the promise of opportunity and money, while others move there to escape racism and intolerance. Through it all, the myth of these quaint, harmonious communities continues to burn powerfully in the minds of many. This is the story of small-town America, from soapbox derbies and Will Rogers’ charm to postwar poverty and the Great Migration, presented in color.
Run time: 48 minutes. Following the screening, Leo Garcia, manager of the Strand 3 Theater, will present on the historic theater and its many transformations. This program is part of Grinnell College’s Smithsonian Affiliate public film series, which features Smithsonian-produced films exploring different aspects of American life and history. Each screening includes collaboration with community partners, faculty, and staff to connect the films to local experiences, Iowa history, and the broader American story—creating shared space for learning, reflection, and connection.

Silt Creek is a trio comprised of three diverse musicians who share a love of music and have been crossing paths for the last 25 years. Grinnellian Ryan Bernemann, Chris Dimond, and Ben Schmidt have been performing in various local and regional bands and join forces to bring a unique and refined sound rich with vocal harmony, playful improvisation, and stunning songcraft. Their sound comes from a broad palette of training and influences from Singer/Songwriter to Alt – Country to Blues, Jazz and Soul music. Live shows include a mix of original compositions, collaborations, and re-envisioned covers. Ben, Chis & Ryan last appeared at the Solera Wine Bar & Listening Room in November 2025. We are pleased to have them back in the Listening Room.

Children should be able to participate independently; while parents are encouraged to stay in the waiting areas, the classes themselves do not include parent participation. Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement by artists and craftspeople in cities and towns around the world to raise money for food-related charities that care for and feed the hungry in their communities. Empty Bowls supports food-related charitable organizations around the world and has raised millions of dollars to help end hunger.
Grinnell Empty Bowls welcomes makers in various media to contribute bowls. Bowls are sold at the Grinnell Area Arts Council's annual Holiday Artist Market and other venues. For More Information Abstract Expressionists: The Women, curated by Ellen G. Landau, presents a fresh look at important contributions U.S. women painters working in New York, California, and Paris made to Abstract Expressionism from the early 1940s through the 1970s. The show features forty-eight outstanding examples from The Levett Collection by twenty-nine women artists, offering audiences more in-depth understanding of a singular aspect of twentieth-century American art, one whose significance has only just begun to receive proper recognition.

Join UnityPoint Health - Grinnell's specially trained physical therapists for a focus on perinatal pelvic floor health. This class will cover common symptoms you may experience in pregnancy and following delivery related to your pelvic floor. A pelvic floor physical therapist will review how pelvic floor physical therapy can address common complaints related to hip and back pain in pregnancy, pelvic pain, incontinence and more! Topics include, but are not limited to, musculoskeletal driven pain in pregnancy related to hip/back/pelvic floor musculature, preparation for birth as it relates to the pelvic floor, bladder health, bowel health, pelvic pain and abdominal and hip muscle strengthening. Following the presentation, there will be a frequently asked questions session and open Q&A to address your specific questions as well as a demonstration of a few exercises you can do with baby!

Amy is the author of Brave Bold You, a children's book about the courage to be yourself, and serves as President of Relevé DSM, an organization dedicated to advancing women in leadership. A former city councilwoman in Dallas Center, Iowa, she also serves on the Roy R. Estle Library Board.

Since its inception of Abstract Expressionism, widely considered the “triumph” of American painting, overwhelmingly marginalized its women participants. By the early postwar period, Abstract Expressionist artists, mainly in Manhattan, began to develop a truly radical approach to process, gesture, scale, and surface that appeared to mirror in art the kind of hypermasculinity U.S. soldiers in WW II had demonstrated on a global stage.
Abstract Expressionists: The Women, aims to upend this gendered narrative, providing conclusive validation for more than thirty female painters who concurrently explored that new mode in New York, the California Bay Area, and Paris, proving they were not—as has typically been presented—mere acolytes or re-interpreters of male achievement, but rather ambitious practitioners and innovators.

For More Information In conversation with Peter Jacobson, Biology Professor and Environmental Studies Department Chair, and Tommy Hexter ’21. Hexter will explore how Grinnell College can continue building meaningful connections between students, Iowa farmers, and local food systems through experiential education, local food procurement, and opportunities to engage directly with the land. The conversation will also explore connections between these efforts and Grinnell’s new Semester at CERA program, and how these initiatives can help students better understand Iowa’s agricultural and ecological communities.
Grinnell College alumnus Tommy Hexter’s time at Grinnell sparked a deep connection to Iowa agriculture and ultimately led him to work across the food system — as a Poweshiek Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner, Iowa Farmers Union Policy Director, Director of Grinnell Farm to Table, and now Executive Director of the Iowa Food System Coalition.

For More Information Abstract Expressionists: The Women, curated by Ellen G. Landau, presents a fresh look at important contributions U.S. women painters working in New York, California, and Paris made to Abstract Expressionism from the early 1940s through the 1970s. The show features forty-eight outstanding examples from The Levett Collection by twenty-nine women artists, offering audiences more in-depth understanding of a singular aspect of twentieth-century American art, one whose significance has only just begun to receive proper recognition.
Abstract Expressionists: The Women is organized by the American Federation of Arts from the Christian Levett Collection and FAMM (Female Artists of the Mougins Museum), France. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Ellen G. Landau. It is generously supported by Berry Campbell Gallery, Betsy Shack Barbanell, Monique Schoen Warshaw, and Clare McKeon and the Clare McKeon Charitable Trust. Additional support has been provided by the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and the Every Page Foundation. For More Information A guitar class for kids age 6-8! If your child is considering learning a musical instrument, why not consider one of the most popular instruments in the world? Guitar Club is tailored towards total beginners, and is a great first step for building elementary musical knowledge. Together with a group of their peers, your child will develop confidence, exercise creativity, and appreciate teamwork as they navigate basic chords and concepts.
This session will run on Mondays from 3:30-4:15 PM now through December 14, 2026. With skills developing quickly or performances on the horizon, registration cannot stay open indefinitely so join an early class and get registered for the session today! Registration is required for participation.

Grinnell Triple Threats offers students in grades 3-5 and 6-8 a chance to discover and hone their musical theater talents, build confidence, and develop their love for the stage in a supportive team setting. What to Expect This class combines singing, dancing, and acting, and will help students develop skills in vocal performance, musical theater dance, stage presence, and character development.

Students will learn popular musical theatre pieces, working with our expert instructors to prepare both the music and choreography. At the end of the class, students will present a showcase for families and friends.
Who Should Attend: This class is designed to be welcoming and engaging for beginners and more experienced performers alike! Instructors will emphasize a team-based approach that makes learning FUN and builds community among participants.
Two groups (grades 3-5 and 6-8) will work independently during rehearsals and come together for certain games and activities.
