Grinnell Community Theatre will hold auditions for its fall production of William Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, directed by Luke Saunders. This production is a staged reading, meaning memorization is not required.

American Brawn’s annual fundraiser is here! Taking place the day after the 25th Anniversary of 9/11, guests are invited to join the fundraiser which aims to support heroic veterans and first responders. The fundraiser will feature a silent auction, entertainment, and a meal. The Smithsonian Film Series continues at the Strand 3 with "America in Color: Made in the USA". At the turn of the 20th century, 29 million Americans are working and 40% of them are farmers. Over the decades, factories expand like never before, two world wars speed up technological change, and by the 1950s, American workers have the highest wages and consumer power of any country in the world. This is the story of the men and women who built the American Dream, presented entirely in color through digitally remastered archival footage and home movies. Run time: 48 minutes.
Following the film, Melissa Strovers, Executive Director of Poweshiek Economic Development Collaborative, will lead an interactive discussion about how our world of work has changed, featuring data from the newly published Grinnell Laborshed Study. The conversation will highlight Grinnell’s workforce, local career opportunities, and why people do not have to leave the area to build a successful career.
This program is part of Grinnell College’s Smithsonian Affiliate public film series, which features Smithsonian-produced films exploring different aspects of American life and history. Abstract Expressionists: The Women, curated by Ellen G. Landau, presents a fresh look at important contributions U.S. women painters working in New York, California, and Paris made to Abstract Expressionism from the early 1940s through the 1970s. The show features forty-eight outstanding examples from The Levett Collection by twenty-nine women artists, offering audiences more in-depth understanding of a singular aspect of twentieth-century American art, one whose significance has only just begun to receive proper recognition.
Abstract Expressionists: The Women is organized by the American Federation of Arts from the Christian Levett Collection and FAMM (Female Artists of the Mougins Museum), France. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Ellen G. Landau. It is generously supported by Berry Campbell Gallery, Betsy Shack Barbanell, Monique Schoen Warshaw, and Clare McKeon and the Clare McKeon Charitable Trust. Landau, presents a fresh look at important contributions U.S. women painters working in New York, California, and Paris made to Abstract Expressionism from the early 1940s through the 1970s. The show features forty-eight outstanding examples from The Levett Collection by twenty-nine women artists, offering audiences more in-depth understanding of a singular aspect of twentieth-century American art, one whose significance has only just begun to receive proper recognition.
Abstract Expressionists: The Women is organized by the American Federation of Arts from the Christian Levett Collection and FAMM (Female Artists of the Mougins Museum), France. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Ellen G. Landau. The Grinnell Farmers Market accepts cash and token transactions — but most importantly, money from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program! On the corner of Broad St. and 4th Ave., find a staff member with a card reader to purchase SNAP EBT tokens. SNAP tokens can be used to purchase:
SNAP benefits can not be used to purchase non-food items (like crafts, clothes, or flowers), and hot food items intended for immediate consumption at the market, such as hot coffee or prepared hot foods.

The Smithsonian Film Series continues at the Strand 3 with "America in Color: Titans of Industry". Presented in color, a look back on the lives, businesses, and friendships of three of America’s titans of industry: Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, and Thomas Edison. America is still a rural nation in 1910. Most homes don’t have electricity, and less than one percent of the population owns a car. But that changes with the rise of Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, and Thomas Edison, who help foster the economic and technological booms of the early 20th century. Through colorized archival footage and personal home movies, explore the business relationships that transformed America and glimpse into powerful friendships that lasted a lifetime. Run time: 48 minutes.
Following the screening, Bill Menner, Executive Director of the Iowa Rural Development Council, will share his perspective on innovation, entrepreneurship, and the role of economic development in strengthening rural communities.
This program is part of Grinnell College’s Smithsonian Affiliate public film series, which features Smithsonian-produced films exploring different aspects of American life and history. Running through November, each screening includes collaboration with community partners, faculty, and staff to connect the films to local experiences, Iowa history, and the broader American story—creating shared space for learning, reflection, and connection.

Each class will include: Drama games to break the ice between participants and help build stage presence Vocal warm-ups and group singing focusing on age-appropriate technique, projection, and confidence Movement and choreography that builds a foundation of standard dance steps for beginners, with leadership and solo opportunities for more experienced dancers Teamwork activities to emphasize that collaboration and trust are at the heart of every great performance! Landau, presents a fresh look at important contributions U.S. women painters working in New York, California, and Paris made to Abstract Expressionism from the early 1940s through the 1970s. The show features forty-eight outstanding examples from The Levett Collection by twenty-nine women artists, offering audiences more in-depth understanding of a singular aspect of twentieth-century American art, one whose significance has only just begun to receive proper recognition.
Abstract Expressionists: The Women is organized by the American Federation of Arts from the Christian Levett Collection and FAMM (Female Artists of the Mougins Museum), France. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Ellen G. Landau. It is generously supported by Berry Campbell Gallery, Betsy Shack Barbanell, Monique Schoen Warshaw, and Clare McKeon and the Clare McKeon Charitable Trust.
