The Grinnell Community Theatre presents She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith. The show is directed by Luke Saunders. She Stoops to Conquer features a large cast of locals bringing this 18th century comedy to life! Upper-class Kate Hardcastle disguises herself as a barmaid to attract the attention of shy Charles Marlow. Deception, mistaken identities and class satire ensue. This production is Readers Theatre style, similar to a radio play, in which cast members hold their scripts and sets and costuming are minimalist. It’s a fun and relaxed night at the theatre!

Grinnell College invites you to join their new weekly series of casual, engaging conversations with featured campus guests. The new weekly series provides an opportunity for informal, engaging conversations between the College and broader Grinnell community on a variety of topics. Today’s topic is “The Seven Deadly Sins of Industrial Agriculture” with guest speaker Jon Andelson, Professor Emeriti of Anthropology. This talk will focus on agriculture’s sins against nature. (Its sins against people could fill another talk.) There are actually more than seven sins, but it’s a start. What are they? What harm are they causing? Can they be countered, as the original seven deadly sins were said to be, by heavenly virtues?
Enjoy coffee, light refreshments, and an open space for connection. All are welcome and no RSVP required. View upcoming speakers on the Grinnell College Events Calendar.
