Overview
In partnership with the Grinnell College Staff Council, Grinnell College presents Coming to America as part of the celebration of the 250th Anniversary of America. From the America in Color series, this engaging film explores the rich history of immigration in the United States—from Einstein-mania to Sicilian pizza—and highlights how immigrants have shaped America’s identity, culture, and tastes. Run time: 48 minutes.
Stick around for a sweet treat! The Dari Barn trailer will be on site from 2:00–4:00 p.m., offering a free ice-cream sundae to the first 120 attendees following the screening.
This program is part of Grinnell College’s Smithsonian Affiliate public film series, which features ten Smithsonian-produced films exploring different aspects of American life and history. Running from May through November, the series takes place at various times and locations across campus and in the community. Each screening includes collaboration with community partners, faculty, and staff to connect the films to local experiences, Iowa history, and the broader American story—creating shared space for learning, reflection, and connection.
