Belt out your favorite show tunes alongside fellow Broadway lovers. Accompanied live on piano by talented local musicians, this series brings the magic of musical theater to an informal, joy-filled setting. We’ll provide a curated songbook full of hits from classic and contemporary musicals, and you’re encouraged to make requests. Whether you sing every word or just hum along, all voices are welcome. This is one of our drop-in programs, designed for those who may be unable to commit to regular classes but who want to be part of a musical community. Attend whenever it works for you. Advance registration is recommended, but we will do our best to accommodate you at the door.
The suggested participation fee is $15 per event. As with all of our programs, pay-what-you-can is always an option. You can also subscribe and support GSoM! For $50/month, attend all the programs you’d like, and help support the Grinnell School of Music!

Grinnell College invites you to join their new weekly series of casual, engaging conversations with featured campus guests. The new weekly series provides an opportunity for informal, engaging conversations between the College and broader Grinnell community on a variety of topics.
Today’s topic is "Museum Studies Goes to Washington: Visiting Smithsonian Museums Before and After the Executive Order." Susan Baley, who teaches Introduction to Museum Studies, has taken students to Washington, DC as part of Grinnell College’s Course-Embedded Travel (CET) program for the past two years. The class visits for a week during spring break to learn from behind-the-scenes tours with museum professionals at the Smithsonian Institution. Grinnell College is an affiliate of the Smithsonian, and our contacts in the affiliate office facilitate the tours. The impact of the 2025 Executive Order “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History” on the Smithsonian museums has become part of the learning experience.

At the same time, an unusually large number of surrealist women artists experienced mental illness. How did women’s experience and their work align with the romanticized vision? Panelists assess the lives and careers of Frida Kahlo, Meret Oppenheim, and Sonja Sekula, artists who suffered from trauma-related symptomatology, depression, and schizophrenia, respectively.

This April Fish workshop will show you how to make simple ceramic pieces that can be strung together to make a decorative fish, which doubles as a wind chime! No prior skill necessary. Fee is $50 and open to those over 14 years of age.
