Event Description:Drake Community Library is thrilled to announce a rare opportunity for the community to witness the phenomenon of a solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th, 2024. As the moon crosses in front of the sun, creating a stunning celestial display, the library invites everyone to join in the experience from 12:44 to 3:15 pm. The solar eclipse, with a maximum viewing time of 87% at 2 pm, promises an awe-inspiring spectacle. To make the event even more memorable, Drake Community Library has planned some self-directed eclipse-themed activities .
The last solar eclipse viewing in Grinnell was August 21, 2017. "We're excited to offer the Grinnell community an unforgettable experience as we witness the beauty of the solar eclipse together," said Mallory Snow, Assistant Library Director at Drake Community Library. "It's an opportunity to connect with the cosmos and appreciate the wonders of our universe."
To ensure safe viewing of the solar eclipse, Drake Community Library will provide eclipse viewing glasses to attendees. These glasses will be available starting on Monday, April 1st, and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. "We prioritize the safety of our patrons, and providing eclipse viewing glasses is essential for protecting their eyes during this event," added Snow.
