Event Description:

Join Grinnell College Department of Theatre and Dance for a performance of "Red Velvet" by Lolita Charkrabarti, directed by Lesley Delmenico.

Flanagan Studio Theatre - Bucksbaum Center for the Arts

Longon 1933. Riots about the abolition of slavery in the colonies. The famed COvent Garden Theatre's leading actor falls ill while playing Othello in the blackface tradition of the time. A youn African-American, Ira Aldridge, steps into the role. Audiences are excited by his passionate portrayal of the Moor, ut history tells another story. This award-winning 2012 play asks compelling questions about race and respresentation. 

"Red Velvet" is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. a Concord Theatricals COmpany. 

This event is free and open to the public. Tickets required and avilable at the Bucksbaum office beginning at noon on Monday, March 2.
