Event Description:

Drake Community Library is proud to present an author talk featuring Sequoia Nagamatsu, Grinnell College Class of 2004. His bestselling novel "How High We Go in the Dark" is the All Iowa Reads 2023 selection. The event is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Friends of Drake Community Library, Grinnell College Office of Community Partnerships, Planning, & Research, and Grinnell College Wilson Center for Innovation and Leadership.

The event will take place in the Community Room of the library, 930 Park Street on Saturday, November 4th at 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM. The event will include a one-hour fireside chat led by Library Assistant, Veronica Ruse, followed by a 30-minute interactive Q&A session with the audience. After the discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to meet the author, have their books signed, and take photos.

Copies of Sequoia Nagamatsu's books are available for purchase at the Grinnell College Pioneer Bookshop, as well as online at or The library has multiple copies to borrow as well as the eaudiobook, ebook and a large print copy.

Nagamatsu’s work includes the story collection, “Where We Go When All We Were Is Gone”, and “Girl Zero” is his upcoming release. Nagamatsu's talent has earned him a place on the shortlists for prestigious literary awards such as the Waterstones Debut Fiction Prize, The Barnes & Noble Discover Prize, and the Ursula K. Le Guin Prize. His short fiction has been published in esteemed publications like Conjunctions, The Southern Review, ZYZZYVA, Tin House, Iowa Review, Lightspeed Magazine, and "One World: A Global Anthology of Short Stories."

Educated at Grinnell College (BA, 2004) and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (MFA), Sequoia Nagamatsu is also dedicated to nurturing the next generation of writers as he teaches creative writing at Saint Olaf College and the Rainier Writing Workshop Low-Residency MFA program.
