Drake Community Library
a bi-monthly book discussion that meets at Drake Community Library, will hold its next meeting on Thursday, November 10th at 7 p.m. The selection to be discussed is “The Gentleman from Moscow” by Amor Towles, the author of “The Rules of Civility” and “The Lincoln Highway”.
“A Gentleman in Moscow” follows the life of an aristocrat sentenced to house arrest in a grand old hotel in Moscow by the Bolsheviks. The charming Count Rostov makes a life for himself despite his diminished circumstances. He finds fulfillment by making the most of his interactions with the people around him. NPR’s Annalisa Quinn’s review states,” All of the verbal excess, the gently funny mock-epic digressions, the small capers and cast of colorful characters, add up to something undeniably mannered but also undeniably pleasant.” The novel has a bit of everything, history, romance, espionage, adventure, and even philosophy.
Book discussions are held on the second Thursday every other month. New readers are always welcome to Bookin’ It @ the Drake. Questions? Call Rachel Romero or Lucy Chang at 641-236-2661. If you are a person with a disability who requires special assistance, you are also encouraged to call the library at 641-236-2661 in advance of the program.
