Learn the ancient art of marbling on fabric and paper. Create swirling patterns using carrageenan and acrylic paints. Experiment with various tools to manipulate the paint to create non-pareil designs, flowers, stones, and more. Fee includes materials, but students should newspapers (non-glossy newsprint or newspaper; about 20 sheets worth of newspapers per person), a large garbage bag, and wear old clothes and an apron. Option to bring an empty clean 1 gal. container to take solution home.
About the instructor: Rebecca Loew is a textile artist living in Grinnell, Iowa. She has been quilting for over 35 years, but in recent years she has explored many other areas of the fiber arts. She has taught at Cornerstone Quilts, the Grinnell Area Arts Council and is currently on the faculty of the Des Moines Art Center. Rebecca says, "I find the mystery and sculptural nature of tying, stitching, folding, and dyeing cloth intriguing. It often takes me in directions I didn't plan on going."
